In 1982 I met a fellow name Ray Cosh. He had rescued the Mercury XM Turnpike Cruiser concept car from a succession of owners after Ford Motor Company disposed of it in the early 1960’s. Thankfully Mr. Cosh saved this one-of-a-kind “dream car” from extinction, but it was in very poor shape. The challenging restoration was beyond the means and expertise of Mr. Cosh, so the car continued to be deteriorate being stored outdoors for decades. Mr. Cosh recently sold the hulk to Tom Maruska who’s up to the challenge of a difficult and costly restoration. See the story here: cars.us” rel=”nofollow”>http://www.tommaruskacars.us

In 1957, Mercury introduced a production version of the concept car. The white car in this video is my 1957 Mercury Turnpike Cruiser shortly after I purchased it from the original owner in 1982.

This video was taken by me in 1982-83 with one of the very first VHS home video cameras, hence the poor quality.
